Gold Coast needed a final-round win to make the NRL top eight but having reached the finals they are keen on upsetting some more highly-fancied opponents.

Gold Coast may have needed a big win in their final regular season fixture to reach the NRL finals but the Titans aren't content with simply making the top eight.

A 44-0 thumping of the Warriors at CBUS Super Stadium on Sunday was enough for the Titans to leapfrog Cronulla into eighth and reach finals for the first time since 2016.

Gold Coast's 10-14 record is the worst of any team in premiership history to qualify for a finals campaign but co-captain Kevin Proctor says that means nothing heading into Saturday's do-or-die match against the Sydney Roosters in Townsville.

"The boys will take a lot of confidence out of that," Proctor said of the Warriors win.

"To win the way we did going into the final series is going to do a world of wonders for all the young guys with their first finals series and their confidence going into these next games.

"They're all winnable now, it's a new competition and you've just got to perform on the night."

Proctor missed Sunday's match against the Warriors due to a shoulder injury.

The 32-year-old said he'll be doing all he can to prove his fitness as he aims to return to finals football for the first time since the 2016 grand final as part of the Melbourne team upset by Cronulla.

Proctor said he was aware of how his experience in finals football could be vital for coach Justin Holbrook's team.

"I'll do a few more tests this week leading up to the game and hopefully it's alright but just see how we go," Proctor said of his fitness.

"I think that little bit of finals experience will do a world of wonders as well for the boys. It's just on our preparation and not getting too carried away."
