Canterbury have torn up the contract of embattled forward Adam Elliott after his latest indiscretion added to a growing rap sheet of off-field troubles.

Adam Elliott has been sacked by Canterbury with two years left to run on his NRL deal after his latest indiscretion proved one scandal too many for the club to forgive.

Leaving the forward without an NRL club for next season, the Bulldogs have severed ties with the 26-year-old after his third off-field incident in recent years.

Elliott was stood down for the final two games of the NRL season after he was caught kissing NRLW player Millie Boyle in the bathroom of a Queensland bar last month and was escorted out of the venue by security.

He was also fined $10,000 by the NRL for bringing the game into disrepute and failing to comply with biosecurity protocols after an integrity unit investigation.

Elliott was forced to front the Bulldogs board this week over the incident, where the decision was made to end his contract following backlash from fans and sponsors.

Patience was already wearing thin with the back-rower following previous misdemeanours including the club's infamous 2018 Mad Monday wreck and an incident involving the wife of ex-teammate Michael Lichaa earlier this year.

He then sought professional help for alcohol issues.

"Adam and the Bulldogs have decided it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways," a short club statement read on Friday night.

The club is committed to supporting Adam during this time.

"We wish Adam all the best for the future."

Elliott stayed with the team in Queensland after he was stood down at the end of the season as the Bulldogs rallied around him in support.

There was high hopes for the Bega-born forward after he re-signed with the Bulldogs at the start of 2020.

However, he is now without a club for next season and battling to save his NRL career considering his off-field disciplinary record.
