Brett Morris has taken the next step in his coaching career, becoming a full-time assistant at the Sydney Roosters in his first year out of playing in the NRL.

Brett Morris will formally move into an assistant coaching role at the Sydney Roosters as part of the retired winger's life after football.

Morris has worked with the Roosters coaching staff this year, after suffering a career-ending knee injury in May.

But his role will become more prominent in 2022, taking on a full-time assistant position alongside Matt King and Jason Ryles.

"Brett played more than 300 NRL and representative games and he has an astute mind with a genuine care for making the players around him better," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

"I've been fortunate to be able to observe Brett's keen eye in video sessions and out on the field both at training and in games over the last three years.

"And I'm looking forward to him applying his knowledge and contributing to our development at the Sydney Roosters in 2022."

Meanwhile the confirmation of Ryles' appointment comes after he had been linked with a move away from Melbourne to the Tri-colours earlier this year.

Long seen as the successor to Craig Bellamy, Ryles played 46 games at the Roosters and has spent the last six seasons with the Storm as well as working with the English rugby team.

He will now help fill the gap left in Robinson's staff from Craig Fitzgibbon's move to take up the head coaching role at Cronulla.
