Parramatta have secured the long-term future of star prop Junior Paulo on a four-year NRL deal.

After losing Isaiah Papali'i, Reed Mahoney and Marata Niukore to rival NRL sides for 2023, Paulo's retention until the end of the 2026 campaign represents a significant coup for the Eels.

Concerns had been raised over the club's negotiation tactics, with captain Clint Gutherson the only big name to recommit to the club during the off-season.

Paulo was reportedly a target for the NRL's 17th team, the Dolphins, but the Samoa international will join Gutherson in staying at Parramatta for the long term.

"Junior is not just a skilful front-rower, he is an asset to the club both on and off the field," Eels football manager Mark O'Neill said.

"His selection into the NSW Origin team is a testament to his ability and the hard work he puts into his game."

The 28-year-old Paulo has played 122 games for Parramatta, during his two spells at the club.

Meanwhile, axed Canterbury forward John Asiata has secured a contract with English club Leigh Centurions after leaving the Bulldogs over his refusal to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Asiata joined Canterbury from Brisbane in November but his refusal to be vaccinated led to his departure from Belmore without playing a game.

While no vaccination mandate is in place in the NRL, Canterbury have taken a tough stance and remained adamant that players and staff would need to be double jabbed.

With options in the NRL limited, the Tonga international signed with Leigh, who were relegated from the Super League this year.

"I just want to say how grateful I am for the opportunity," Asiata said.

"It's been a long and tough couple of months; but I'm excited for this next challenge and the journey ahead with my family and to be part of this proud club."
