Finucane hails Cronulla 'reflection point'

3 minute read

Dale Finucane says Cronulla will be able to use a momentous victory over the Warriors as a reference point as they hunt bigger things this NRL season.

Dale Finucane admits it's hard to think of a more courageous victory in his career and that reflecting on their take down of the Warriors will serve them well approaching NRL finals.

The Sharks became the first team to win an NRL game in 14 years with one less player, even doing so with two less men for 10 minutes when Will Kennedy's send-off was followed by Jesse Ramien's sin-binning.

Craig Fitzgibbon's side not only held the Warriors scoreless in the second half, they also scored four tries while having one less player.

"It's right up there; the resilience of the group to do what we did with 12 men for 65 minutes and then 11 for the 10 after that," Finucane said ahead of Sunday's Magic Round clash with Canberra.

"Being involved in grand finals and winning, it's hard to beat those sort of feelings.

"But in terms of courage and commitment and will to win, I can't think of too many more I'd put above it.

"It'll be a real reflection point for the rest of the year in terms of communication and things we had to do because of the absence of the men we didn't have."

The Sharks (6-3) have impressed to sit fourth entering the 10th round, Nicho Hynes living up the hype after the Melbourne Storm utility back was chased hard.

Finucane reserved praise for his halves partner Matt Moylan, who signed a one-year extension last season and should be a part of the club's future according to the skipper.

"I'd love to see him stay. It was surprising a little bit, or unknown I guess, how quickly our spine would gel ... by adding Nicho to that mix," Finucane said of the 30-year-old Moylan.

"The cohesion of that group's been really good for us.

"I certainly do (think he's underrated) ... I think he's getting back to that form (he showed at the Panthers) and he's really delivering for us.

"I've got all the faith that he stays with us and he has plenty of good footy ahead of him."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
