Nicho Hynes, as ever, is hogging the headlines but strike centre Jesse Ramien has quietly recommitted to Cronulla for three more years in another major boost to the Sharks' NRL title hopes.

While Hynes is wrestling psychologically with his mother being in jail and physically with a calf injury ahead of Cronulla's season opener against South Sydney, it's full steam ahead for Ramien.

Ramien has re-signed until the end of 2026, saying he wouldn't want to be anywhere else after returning to Cronulla in 2020 following a one-season cameo at Newcastle.

"I love it here. Feels like a second home to me," he told AAP on Monday.

"We've got a good bunch of boys, we're all very close.

"As for the location, what more could you want? It's an unreal spot. Great club, great people, great culture here."

Ramien's retention comes after fellow star backs Ronaldo Mulitalo (2025) and SiosifaTalakai (2026) also both re-signed last year, while Hynes is hopeful of finalising a deal that will keep the reigning Dally M Medallist in the Shire for life.

Ramien, 25, believes the Sharks are poised to win a premiership after finishing second on the ladder last season under first-year coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

"We obviously fell a few games short but it's something we're building on," he said.

"I think we can do something really, really special this year."

The Sharks open their 2023 campaign against the Rabbitohs at PointsBet Stadium.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
