The Wallabies have added Australian Scott Wisemantel as an assistant to new head coach Dave Rennie.

The Wallabies might not have got Eddie Jones but they've signed one of his key assistants.

Scott Wisemantel has joined Rugby Australia on a four year deal, providing strong Australian and international experience to the Wallabies as their attack coach.

"I'm really looking forward to returning home to Australia after 10 years and for the opportunity to work alongside Dave Rennie," Wisemantel said.

When Kiwi Rennie was appointed as Wallabies head coach in November, Rugby Australia said they wanted Australians as his assistants, with an eye to Rennie's eventual replacement.

Former NSW Waratahs assistant Wisemantel was identified as one of those targets.

The 49-year-old was Wallabies skills coach for four years from 2004 and has worked with Manu Samoa, Japan and England's national teams.

"I've learnt a few things from working with various programs around the world and it's given me another perspective on how to view the game as an attack coach," Wisemantel said.

"Historically, the Wallabies have been innovative in how they play the game and how they attack so I want to bring that to the table.

"There's a good group of players with some exciting talent coming through, which will create competition for spots amongst the current crop.

"I'm looking forward to get stuck into it and visiting the Super Rugby teams early in the new year, seeing how I can learn off them and prepare for a really important 2020 season."

Rugby Australia also confirmed on Thursday that Dean Benton has been appointed as national head of athletic performance, and Chris Webb will be the Wallabies' general manager.
