Boks show faith ahead of Wallabies rematch

3 minute read

South Africa have made just one unforced change to the side that lost to Australia last weekend ahead of their Rugby Championship rematch on Saturday.

World champions South Africa have backed themselves to make amends for last weekend's after-the-siren loss to Australia, making minimal changes for their rematch in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Springboks were uncharacteristically sloppy coming off a series win over the British and Irish Lions and two victories over Argentina, missing three straight kicks and four in total in the 28-26 loss on the Gold Coast.

They've gone back to the well for the Rugby Championship rematch at Suncorp Stadium, where Australia have won eight-straight Tests and the Springboks have managed just three wins from 15 attempts.

Marvin Orie will replace lock Lood de Jager (concussion), while Trevor Nyakane was named at loosehead prop with Steven Kitshoff named amongst the replacements in place of Ox Nche.

Coach Jacques Nienaber lamented his side's lack of discipline but said they needed to consider selections "as unemotionally as possible".

"Australia were desperate to win last week and it showed in the way they played," coach Jacques Nienaber said.

"We know what we are capable of as a team and we created sufficient opportunities to win last week, but we didn't capitalise on them.

"So, we back our systems and structures and it is now a matter of being as effective as possible in executing our plan."
