Ex-Socceroo Kevin Muscat has been handed a contract extension at Yokohama F. Marinos after his impressive start as coach of the J-League club.

Muscat joined Yokohama in July and led the team to a second-place finish in this year's J-League, earning a spot in next year's Asian Champions League.

On Wednesday the club announced they had extended the former Melbourne Victory coach's tenure for the 2022 campaign.

The 48-year-old is following in the footsteps of former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou, who famously led Yokohama to the 2019 J-League title.

It's also an impressive rebound for Muscat after he was sacked in 2020 following an ill-fated six-month stint at the helm of Belgian top-flight outfit Sint-Truiden.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
