Dutchman Verbeek talks with Adelaide Utd

3 minute read

Dutch manager Gertjan Verbeek has been approached to coach A-League club Adelaide United.

Dutchman Gertjan Verbeek says he's the sole coaching candidate being sounded out by A-League club Adelaide United.

Verbeek could next week sign a deal with Adelaide to take over from Marco Kurz, who won't be offered a contract for next season.

"I don't think they speak to other candidates," Verbeek has told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

"The people from Adelaide United that I met are very enthusiastic."

The 56-year-old has managed several teams in the Netherlands and Germany - his most recent stint ended when being sacked by FC Twente in March last year.

Verbeek, no relation for former Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek, said he had held initial discussions with Adelaide hierarchy.

"This seems like a great adventure," he said.

"Australians have a great sports mentality. Moreover, you often hear that Australia is a great country to live in."

German-born Kurz could coach Adelaide for the last time in Friday night's A-League semi-final against Perth Glory.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
