3 minute read

Jarred Gillett's departure to England will allow Shaun Evans to officiate his first A-League grand final when Perth Glory face Sydney FC.

Shaun Evans, the A-League referee of the year, will officiate in Sunday's grand final between Perth Glory and Sydney FC.

The 31-year-old full-time referee will take charge of his first A-League decider after an outstanding season in the middle

The Victorian called the appointment "a lifelong dream".

"I'd like to thank my wife Bree for supporting my referee career and everyone along the way who has helped become a better match official," he said.

"I'm confident that the referee team that has been appointed will help contribute to an entertaining match on Sunday.

His most recent match was the elimination final between Melbourne Victory and Wellington, notable for the seven yellow cards he issued to Phoenix players, and none to Victory.

Evans gets the chance to referee the showpiece match after the departure of Jarred Gillett to England.

Gillett had overseen the past four grand finals.

"Shaun has a fine balance between facilitating entertaining football and enforcing the laws across his twenty-one matches this season," FFA referees boss Ben Wilson said.

"I look forward to this continuing on Sunday."
