Socceroos and Matildas to play in Canberra

3 minute read

Canberra has secured Socceroos and Matildas matches with the FFA promising three internationals in the capital over the next 18 months.

The Socceroos and Matildas will play matches in Canberra over the next 18 months after securing funding in the ACT government's 2019-20 budget on Tuesday.

Canberra was snubbed when the A-League expanded for the second time in a decade last December, but Football Federation Australia has promised the capital three internationals.

The match schedule will be announced on Friday.

The Socceroos haven't played in Canberra since hosting a World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan in 2015, while the Matildas used to be based at the Australian Institute of Sport.

The ACT government also allocated $20 million towards a new $24.5 million facility set to become the new Capital Football headquarters.
