Australia will face Taiwan in a World Cup qualifier at the eco-friendly and unique Kaohsiung National Stadium.
AUSTRALIA-TAIWAN WORLD CUP QUALIFIER STADIUM IS ECO-FRIENDLY GROUNDBREAKER:
* The Kaohsiung National Stadium was built for the 2009 World Games and was the first venue in the world to run off its own energy
* 8844 solar panels generate enough energy to power the stadium's video screens and 3300 lights
* When the venue is not in use, the power generated is put back into the grid and provides 80 per cent of the electricity needs for the area
* The stadium also pays homage to the region's cultural heritage with the solar panels representing scales in the stadium's visual effect of resembling a curled-up dragon
* The stadium was built with 100 per cent raw recyclable materials
* The stadium's roof is oriented to protect spectators from Kaohsiung's summer sunshine, while the design also circulates summer breezes to keep spectators cool.
