Unbeaten City can go far in A-League: Good

3 minute read

Melbourne City are sitting pretty and undefeated at the top of the A-League and defender Curtis Good says there's confidence the club can go far this season.

Melbourne City defender Curtis Good reckons the club's new-found belief can take them far this A-League season after a superb opening month.

Undefeated with three wins and a draw, City go up against a rejuvenated Central Coast Mariners on Friday atop the table.

"Winning games just naturally brings confidence but the way the team's playing, everyone just understands their role," Good said.

"There's confidence in the coaching staff and the players in each other, so all of that plays a part going forward and it's important for us."

City overcame a scare against Wellington last week, recovering from a goal down to win 3-2 and Good said it was the type of game they could easily have dropped in previous seasons.

"There was a couple of those games last year where we dropped a few points, so if we want to be serious about winning the league, these are the games we have to take the three points," he said.

"And that's something we earmarked at the start of the season so it's good to see the boys putting it into practice."

City's depth has been tested, with injuries and suspension seeing midfielder Josh Brillante play defence against Wellington and a number of young players earn game time.

Good praised Brillante's centre-back cameo and said City's show of depth was promising.

"There's always going to be questions asked when players go down and players are making debuts and stepping forward," he said.

"So we were tested a little bit on the weekend and the boys came up with the goods. So it's encouraging to know that we have the depth."

Connor Metcalfe, Scott Galloway and Craig Noone all scored in the absence of hamstrung Socceroo Jamie Maclaren.

"No doubt we miss Macca but it's important to have those other players as well, where everyone can chip in and get on the score sheet and I think we proved it on the weekend," Good said.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
