Melbourne Victory coach Marco Kurz has called for patience amid his understrength side's difficult start to the A-League season.

Victory have a win and two draws from their first five games and had to come back from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.

Kurz couldn't set a return date for injured trio Andrew Nabbout, Tim Hoogland and Robbie Kruse but emphasised the importance of patience as the season played out.

"Not now, it's not the style we want to play but at the moment it's very important to have a good attitude at the pitch - that what we can do," Kurz said.

"We saw a very good game in Brisbane (for) 90 minutes, the whole time, and ... a good second half and we must hold the level every game because at the moment we miss quality and we have to play in a good way to get points - then the rest is coming.

"If you have a good attitude, a good body language, if you are hard working, the form is coming for sure, the quality's coming."

Despite a difficult start to the season, Kurz was confident he could turn things around.

"The good thing is in Australia it's a long season ... it's not important to finish on the top to reach the final," he said.

"It was a big cut after the last season, we know that some players came here late and it needs time - also we had not the luck with our injuries.

"But I'm looking forward, I'm still positive - it's not a good idea to watch back and to think (what could have happened) - we must look forward."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
