Sam Kerr has signed with Chelsea, but Matildas teammate Emily van Egmond says juggling the W-League with America's NWSL is still a good option for some players.

Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond says while it's exciting to see the likes of Sam Kerr and Emily Gielnik test themselves in Europe, there is still room for players to juggle the W-League with America's NWSL.

Kerr recently signed with Chelsea while Gielnik joined Bayern Munich in October - but the majority of the Matildas still play in the W-League.

Van Egmond previously played in Germany with 1.FFC Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg but has more recently elected to alternate NWSL commitments with Orlando Pride with seasons in the W-League.

"I think we've just come to a point now where girls have been doing the back-to-back seasons for so many years and it does take a toll on your body, especially the older you get and I think for Sammy and for Em to go over and experience Europe is a great thing," van Egmond said.

"I personally feel it's whatever the individual's best needs are - some people might prefer Europe, some people might prefer America for a variety of different reasons.

"But I think as long as we can have the Matildas being in the best training environment possible, year round, I think it's only going to benefit our national team - whether that's in America or whether that's in Europe playing Champions League and club football."

Van Egmond joined Melbourne City ahead of the current season and has scored two goals in as many appearances, playing in a more advanced midfield role.

Her last-ditch penalty against Canberra United on the weekend secured City's first victory of the season - giving Rado Vidosic's team a platform to build from as they look to return to the finals.

"I think obviously our squad is second-to-none and there's no excuses when it comes to who we have on the park," van Egmond said.
