Perth Glory duo Neil Kilkenny and Bruno Fornaroli will return to their former stomping ground in Friday night's clash with Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

They both parted ways with Melbourne City in acrimonious fashion, but Perth Glory duo Bruno Fornaroli and Neil Kilkenny will have nothing but love for their previous employers when they return to their former stomping ground on Friday night.

Fornaroli and Kilkenny were both forced to look elsewhere to revive their A-League careers after being frozen out by then-Melbourne City coach Warren Joyce.

Kilkenny linked up with Glory in January 2018, and has since become a mainstay in the midfield.

Fornaroli played just four games for City last season before signing on with Glory at the end of the campaign.

Joyce is no longer at Melbourne City, and both Fornaroli and Kilkenny have been eager to express they have no beef at all with the club itself.

"It's a fantastic club, run really well, and I really enjoyed my time there," Kilkenny said ahead of Friday night's clash at AAMI Park.

"I'm looking forward to the game now."

Glory sit dead last on the table after securing just one win and three draws from their first seven games.

City are flying in second spot, with striker Jamie Maclaren on fire after netting nine goals in four games.

"He does a fantastic job for them," Kilkenny said of the former Glory marksman.

"The movement that he creates by running behind and stretching the play creates space for other players in the hole."

Glory have dominated various games this season without being able to come away with the win.

Coach Tony Popovic says it's been difficult to break down teams who have adopted a defence-minded strategy and who only want to attack on the counter.

Kilkenny believes the results will soon fall Glory's way.

"We've been dominating games all season really with the ball possession wise, but not punishing teams and then letting goals in at the back," Kilkenny said.

"Hopefully we can improve that on Friday night."
