Sydney FC eased past Newcastle Jets on the back of yet another double from Remy Siemsen to move up to second behind fellow heavyweights Melbourne City.

Young striker Remy Siemsen jumped to top of the W-League goalscoring chart as Sydney FC returned to winning ways with a comfortable win over Newcastle Jets.

Siemsen scored in each half - her third double in five matches - as the reigning champions outlasted the Jets in Newcastle on Sunday.

The 2-0 victory keeps the Sky Blues in second, a point shy of Melbourne City after five rounds.

Siemsen headed home the opener from close range on the half-hour mark, having profited from an inch-perfect Angelique Hristodoulou cross.

The visitors created a catalogue of half-chances with Siemsen and Caitlin Foord spurning good openings.

But it took an error from goalkeeper Claire Coelho for Sydney to double their lead with Siemsen firing a shot home following a wayward pass from the Jets' No.1.

The 20-year-old now has six goals, two ahead of Western Sydney Wanderers' Kristen Hamilton, with the Wanderers out of action over the weekend.

There was more good news for Sydney FC with Matildas' defender Alanna Kennedy making her first starting appearance of the season, while American import Veronica Latsko finally debuted as a substitute following injury.

Sydney will be looking to defend a near-perfect derby record when they tackle the third-placed Wanderers next Friday.
