Newcastle Jets sign Ibini in A-League

3 minute read

Australian forward Bernie Ibini has returned to the A-League with Newcastle Jets, linking up with his former Vancouver Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson.

Australian forward Bernie Ibini has signed with A-League club Newcastle Jets until the end of the season.

The former Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC winger links up with coach Carl Robinson, who he played under at MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps.

"To have the chance to return to Australia and link up with Carl once again is fantastic, and I'm really pleased to have signed here in Newcastle," Ibini said.

"I've been training hard on my own for a little while now, I'm feeling fit and I'm really excited to get back into a team environment and push for a spot in that starting XI."

Ibini previously had stints at Shanghai Dongya, Club Brugge - where he never played a game after a serious leg injury - Vancouver Whitecaps and Emirates Club.

The 27-year-old won the K League with Jeonbuk last year and will bolster the Jets' attacking stocks.

"I've obviously worked with Bernie in the past, I know what he can do, and I think he'll fit in well with this team," Robinson said.

"Bernie's played more than 100 times in the Hyundai A-League, so he brings plenty of experience with him which is important."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
