WSW's Georgievski cops A-Lge 'assault' ban

3 minute read

Daniel Georgievski is set to miss Wanderers' next two A-League games after he was red-carded for lashing out at Marco Tilio in last weekend's Sydney derby.

Western Sydney defender Daniel Georgievski has been handed a two-match A-League ban for lashing out at Sydney FC's Marco Tilio.

In the 89th minute of a fiery Harbour City derby, Georgievski reacted to a clumsy challenge from Tilio by lashing out with his foot and catching the Sky Blues' forward in the face.

After a VAR review, the Wanderers' No.5's yellow card was upgraded to a straight red.

Georgievski received the ban for the charge of "assault on a player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) including an attempted assault on a player".

The two-match ban is the minimum sanction for the offence.

Georgievski will miss Western Sydney's away clashes against Brisbane Roar (March 6) and Melbourne City (March 14) and will be in line to return for the next Sydney derby, at Bankwest Stadium on March 21.

The player has until 2pm Tuesday to appeal the sanction.
