Melbourne City coach Patrick Kisnorbo says missed opportunities early in the match cost his side in the 2-0 loss at Adelaide United.
Melbourne City coach Patrick Kisnorbo conceded that wasted chances had cost his side in the 2-0 defeat at Adelaide United but he felt the final score had flattered the hosts.
The visitors enjoyed a handful of chances and largely looked the better side during the opening 45 minutes at Coopers Stadium on Sunday but failed to find a way past James Delianov in the Reds' goal.
City were then dealt a blow when skipper Scott Jamieson was given his marching orders just after the hour for a second yellow card with United going on to break the deadlock from the ensuing free kick.
The Reds scored again soon after with a deflected shot wrong-footing keeper Tom Glover.
"I think the first half, we had the better of the chances," Kisnorbo said.
"Obviously, we didn't convert and then you go down to 10 men. You concede a set piece and a deflection, it's game over.
"But, to be fair, I thought we dominated the first half, but it wasn't a 2-0 result, I think."
Kisnorbo also acknowledged the Reds' home support was pivotal with the 10,000-plus crowd roaring into life following the opening goal.
The former City defender felt his side had kept the fans at bay for much of the opening half while the visitors were dominating Adelaide and peppering the Reds goal.
"Fans do lift the team," Kisnorbo said.
"I think the first half, because we controlled them (Adelaide), the fans were a bit quiet to be honest.
"But then obviously the game swings and the fans are on top of you again."
Despite the result, Kisnorbo is so far enjoying his brief time as head coach of City.
The former club captain was appointed in September following the departure of Erick Mombaerts after the grand final loss to Sydney FC.
"Yeah, (it has been) great - you find out very quickly that the roller coaster (ride) of a manager is up and down," he said.
"Sometimes, it's good one week but frustrating another.
"But, all in all, I'm very humbled and honoured to be head coach and it's part of the journey that you learn from days like this and they can only make you better."
