Glory sign ex-Bundesliga defender Langkamp

3 minute read

Former Bundesliga defender Sebastian Langkamp has joined Perth Glory for the next two A-League seasons.

Perth Glory have bolstered their A-League defence, signing former Bundesliga defender Sebastian Langkamp for the next two seasons.

Langkamp, a 193cm centre-back, kicked off his career in Bayern Munich's reserve team but later went on to accumulate nearly 200 Bundesliga appearances across stints at Karlsruher SC, FC Augsburg, Hertha Berlin and most recently, Werder Bremen.

"After such a long time playing in Germany, I had to ask myself the question would it be great to have a new experience in another country for me professionally and us as a family," Langkamp said.

"There were two or three options to stay in Germany, but we decided to try the new experience and it was an easy decision for us.

"It's a new challenge."

Langkamp said he'd previously tuned into the A-League to watch Sydney FC's Alex Baumjohann - his friend and former Hertha Berlin teammate - play.

The 32-year-old, a former Germany under-18 and under-21 international, adds significant experience to Richard Garcia's largely youth-filled Glory squad.

"Sebastian is a great addition to the squad and someone who will bring a wealth of experience to the group," Garcia said.

"Having a player of his quality will bolster our defence as well as help improve our young defenders at the club."

Perth will kick off their A-League season against Adelaide United at HBF Park on January 20.
