Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne faces a hectic Sydney derby week with his first child due a day after the Sky Blues' A-League clash with Western Sydney.
Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne hopes a unique Sydney derby week will deliver multiple reasons to celebrate.
Redmayne's wife Caitlin is due to give birth to the couple's first child on January 17 - the day after the Sky Blues face fierce rivals Western Sydney.
"It's strange. We're almost due any day now but me and my wife are very much routine kind of people and I think we're very much gonna take things as they come," Redmayne told AAP.
"So if things were to progress early then it's just another little hurdle to get through, but if it doesn't come we've just got to go about our lives as if we're preparing for a game as normal."
If the baby arrives early, Redmayne - who previously sat out Sydney's ACL campaign in Doha to support his wife - is also prepared for the possibility of skipping the game, or making a dash to the hospital.
"I've said all along I want to be there for the birth of my first child and support my wife," he said.
"Obviously it's a big occasion for my family and I wouldn't want to miss it for the world.
"Having said that, if we are in a game or something's happening, we've got enough depth in the squad to cover that and we're also not far away from hospitals and the like.
"So I'm sure whichever way the cookie crumbles, I'll be there."
However the week plays out for Redmayne, he and his Sydney teammates are raring to reclaim derby bragging rights on Saturday.
Despite the Sky Blues' dominance in recent years, they haven't beaten the Wanderers in the A-League since December 2018 and recorded two losses and a draw last season.
"Results haven't gone my way in derbies but I think it's far out of the mind when you're holding up the trophy at the end of the season," Redmayne said.
"Last year, although we didn't have the greatest success in derbies, we played extremely well in the derbies and we always knew that we had a greater end goal and we were successful in achieving that.
"They're our cross-town rivals and it's one for the fans.
"They get up for it and we want to repay the faith that they've shown in us and we can go a long way to doing that by getting a win on the weekend."
