Sydney FC have moved top of the W-League after a 2-0 derby victory over Western Sydney Wanderers and remain the only team with a 100 per cent record.

Goals from Mackenzie Hawkesby and Ellie Brush either side of halftime sealed Saturday's victory at the Olympic Stadium, making it three out of three in a convincing start to the season for Ante Juric's Sky Blues.

"I didn't think we were at our best but what I was pleased with was that, defensively, we were able to stay strong," said Juric.

"It was a bit of a battle but I couldn't ask more in terms of the attitude defensively."

Sydney began to warm to the contest around the half-hour mark after a sluggish start and when Princess Ibini was brought down after some neat footwork in the box, Hawkesby slotted home the penalty to send the Sky Blues ahead.

It was a signal for Sydney, last season's grand finalists, to largely take control, even if they weren't at their best.

Soon after, both Siemsen and Hawkesby hit the woodwork as they looked to seal the points before the break.

Siemsen then had a close-range effort scrambled off the line in the 65th minute but Wanderers' reprieve was short-lived.

A minute later, Western Sydney failed to deal with a corner, allowing centre back Brush to capitalise, volleying the ball home.
