A snapshot of A-League's seventh week

3 minute read

A look at the seventh week of the A-League, as the big Melbourne clubs continued to struggle.

THEY SAID IT: "I said it on the pitch, I was at Melbourne City for a year and a half, I got player of the year in my first year so I think that's a bit unprofessional of him, but maybe he should write that in his diary" - Neil Kilkenny when told former teammate Stefan Mauk said there was a reason he was never picked to play at City.

MAN OF THE WEEK: Central Coast teenager Alou Kuol continued his ripping season with a four-minute double against Western United on Sunday night. The 19-year-old has now scored five goals in seven games this year.

BEAT THAT: Keanu Baccus pulled off a brilliant scorpion kick to assist Simon Cox to head in the equaliser in Western Sydney's 2-2 draw with Macarthur.

STAT ATTACK: Brisbane stunned with three goals in the opening 17 minutes in their 5-2 win over Melbourne Victory. It was the fastest a team had scored three opening goals in A-League history.

TALKING POINT: It's shaping up to be a tough season for Melbourne Victory with just one win from their first five games. One of the biggest clubs in the A-League, they are now bottom of the ladder after that defeat in Redcliffe and Newcastle's 1-0 win over Melbourne City.

UNDER PRESSURE: Melbourne's big clubs Victory and City, who are both floundering at the bottom of the ladder after their latest losses. City's 1-0 defeat by Newcastle on Sunday had them looking particularly toothless at times.

UP NEXT: Sydney FC will look to correct their worrying home record at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Monday night, where they have won just one of their last five games. They will host Wellington, who have a poor record against the Sky Blues.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
