Socceroo Martin Boyle has scored twice in Hibernian's 2-0 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

Socceroos forward Martin Boyle has continued his recent scoring form, bagging both goals as Hibernian beat Aberdeen 2-0 to tighten their grip on third place in the Scottish Premiership.

The 27-year-old Boyle converted a first-half penalty then got in behind the Aberdeen to score again in the 67th minute, picking up a pass and threading his shot into the far corner.

Boyle has scored four goals in his last three games.

His arcing runs caused plenty of problems for fourth-placed Aberdeen who have only one win from their last seven games.

"He (Boyle) is looked back to his best in recent weeks again," Hibs manager Jock Ross said of Boyle.

"He's had some personal issues and we left him out a few weeks ago and I think he benefited from that rest mentally as well as physically.

"He's settled a lot now and bringing Chris (Cadden) to the squad has allowed us to free him up higher up the pitch."

Scottish-born Boyle has already impressed Socceroos coach Graham Arnold in his short international career, notably when scoring two goals and assisting with the other in a 3-0 win against Lebanon in his starting debut in 2018 before injury intervened.

While Boyle turned on a man-of-the-match performance against Aberdeen, his Socceroos and Hibs teammate Jackson Irvine was forced off with a shoulder injury during the second half.

Ross said later Irvine's shoulder was not dislocated and the club would wait to see how he recovered from soreness.
