Pregnant Matilda Gorry to miss Olympics

3 minute read

Matilda Katrina Gorry has ruled herself out of this year's Olympics after announcing she is expecting a child in August.

Experienced Matildas midfielder Katrina Gorry is pregnant and has ruled herself out of this year's Olympics.

The 28-year-old announced on Instagram on Monday she is expecting the birth of her child in August.

With this year's Olympic tournament in Tokyo set to be played in late July and early August, it means Gorry will sit out what would have been her second Games.

While she'll miss the Olympics, Gorry already has her sights set on a return to the Matildas in time for the 2023 World Cup on home soil.

"I'll be back," she told News Corp Australia.

"We have the 2023 World Cup here and I would like to be in contention for that."

Gorry has been part of Brisbane's W-League squad this summer, scoring a wonder goal in the Roar's 1-1 draw with Canberra United last month.

The diminutive Gorry debuted for Australia in 2012 and has gone on to make 78 appearances for the Matildas, scoring 15 goals.
