Glory set for W-League fixture catch-up

3 minute read

The rest of the W-League fixture has been released and Perth Glory will have to catch up on a massive backlog of games caused by border restrictions.

Perth Glory will play nine W-League matches in five-and-a-half weeks in a bid to catch up on a fixture backlog.

The Glory are playing catch-up after being restricted to just three games due to border restrictions while Brisbane have played eight games and several teams have completed seven during the same time.

Perth last played on January 24 but will return to action away against Western Sydney on Thursday, then face Brisbane away on Sunday.

The W-League released the remainder of the fixture list beyond this weekend's games on Wednesday, confirming Perth would complete their final seven games, including five consecutive home matches, between February 25 and March 28.

"Due to the various border restrictions that have been in place over the past few months, this has been a particularly challenging W-League season for our clubs, players and fans (to) manage," leagues boss Greg O'Rourke said.

"Thankfully we are now in a position to announce all the remaining fixtures of the W-League 2020-21 season."

In contrast to Perth's situation, Brisbane only have four games left so will have two byes in the final month of the regular season.

The race for the finals is well and truly alive, with Sydney FC, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Melbourne Victory leading the race for a top-four finish.

Every team plays 12 games, with the top four qualifying for the finals.
