Highs and lows of round six in the NRL

3 minute read

All the details from the sixth round of the NRL, including injuries, suspensions, stats, quotes and the player of the round.

WHAT HAPPENED IN ROUND SIX OF THE NRL

* QUOTE OF THE ROUND: "I knew he was crook, but I didn't know he was spewing out the back. But he was unreal" - Newcastle captain Jayden Brailey sums up Kalyn Ponga's efforts against Cronulla.

* STAT THAT MATTERS: The Warriors finish the round in the top-eight for the first time in 756 days following their 20-14 win over St George Illawarra.

* MAGIC MOMENT: Tom Burgess' golden-point try awarded to South Sydney, but only after the on-field referee awarded Luke Brooks one for Wests Tigers. After there'd been some suggestion Burgess had bounced the ball, Brooks went the length of the field to score. But replays showed Burgess got the ball down, and the Rabbitohs won.

* MAN OF THE ROUND: Can any other player have the impact on a team more than Tom Trbojevic? After watching Manly stagger through the first five rounds with four losses and a one-point win, Trbojevic was in everything in their 36-0 victory over Gold Coast. The fullback finished with a try, two assists, six tackle busts and 186 metres..

* TALKING POINT: Is the send-off back? Ashley Klein's decision to march Jack Hetherington for a high shot on Valentine Holmes in Canterbury's loss to North Queensland comes after weeks of calls from NRL boss Graham Annesley for bigger punishments for incidents that could cause head injuries.

* JUDICIARY WATCH: Bulldogs - Jack Hetherington (high tackle); Rabbitohs - Latrell Mitchell (contrary conduct, dangerous contact and dangerous contact); Tigers - Zane Musgrove (high tackle); Titans - Tino Fa'asuamaleaui (shoulder charge); Sharks - Aiden Tolman (crusher), Jack Williams (dangerous tackle); Victor Radley (high tackle); Panthers - Paul Momirovski (dangerous contact).

* CASUALTY WARD: Knights - Hymel Hunt (hamstring); Roosters - Siosiua Taukeiaho (rib), Jared Waerea-Hargraves (shoulder), Tigers - AJ Keapoa (knee); Warriors - Peta Hiku (shoulder), Adam Pompey (knee), Corey Norman (shoulder).

* UNDER PRESSURE: Are the Gold Coast contenders or pretenders? Much hyped before the start of the season, the Titans have won three of their first six but the 36-0 flogging of Manly has raised some real questions.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
