Traore ban decision on hold after hearing

3 minute read

Melbourne Victory defender Adama Traore will have to wait to discover what A-League ban he faces with an independent disciplinary hearing reserving its verdict.

Melbourne Victory defender Adama Traore will have to wait to find out how many A-League matches he will be suspended for after an independent disciplinary hearing on Thursday reserved its decision.

The hearing at Football Australia's Sydney headquarters was held after the Ivorian was sent off in the first half of Victory's humiliating 7-0 derby loss to cross-town rivals Melbourne City at AAMI Park on April 17.

After a rash challenge on City winger Andrew Nabbout, the stand-in Victory captain made contact with referee Chris Beath's arm as he argued the decision that resulted in his sending off.

Traore's actions sparked a brief melee before the 31-year-old threw down his captain's armband and stormed off the field.

An independent match review panel referred the matter to Thursday's disciplinary hearing, which was attended by Traore, after determining he had committed the offence of "unsporting conduct toward a match official".

It is expected the final decision on Traore's ban will be released within the next two weeks.

After Tuesday's 1-0 loss to Sydney FC, Victory sit second bottom and have just eight matches left in their season.
