Adelaide United fullback Ryan Strain is leaving the A-League to join an Israeli club.

Strain, a dual FFA Cup winner with the Reds, has signed with Israel's Premier League champions Maccabi Haifa.

The 24-year-old right-back has been sold for an undisclosed fee, Adelaide's football director Bruce Djite said

"Ryan's departure, like with any integral player that leaves the club, is a bitter-sweet feeling," Djite said in a statement on Monday.

"While it is sad to see him go, we are proud that Ryan has been able to secure a move overseas and challenge himself further.

"This transfer is a just reward and fair reflection on the performances Ryan has put in this season."

Strain will join Maccabi Haifa before their UEFA Champions League first-round qualifier on July 8.

"I'm looking forward to the next stage of my career and testing myself at a higher level, but Adelaide United will always have a special place in my heart," Strain said.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
