Matildas star Steph Catley has signed a new deal with Arsenal which will keep her at the powerful Women's Super League side for "another few years".

The 28-year-old Australia international, who joined the London club two years ago, has become a firm favourite with Gunners fans.

The news of her contract extension was revealed on the club's official website www.arsenal.com but with no details of the length of the deal.

Melbourne's Catley, who won her 100th cap for Australia in February, told the website: "It feels absolutely incredible. I've been here for two years now and I've made some incredible friendships and I feel right at home here.

"I've been through some tough times and some great times and I feel that I'm growing so much as a person and as a player. I'm just happy to call Arsenal home for another few years."

The news comes with Catley and her fellow Matildas at Arsenal, Caitlin Foord and Lydia Williams, still in contention to lift the WSL title.

They are just one point behind Chelsea, whose star player is fellow Matilda Sam Kerr, with both clubs facing their last matches of the season on Sunday.

Chelsea are at home to third-placed Manchester United while Arsenal will simultaneously be facing fellow London side West Ham.

Catley's new deal has been welcomed by Arsenal's head coach manager Jonas Eidevall, who described it as "fantastic news".

"Steph is one of the best players in the world in her position," he said.

"She's played an integral role this season for us, making big contributions in both defence and attack, so we're very pleased that she will be staying with us for the coming years".

Catley, who's previously been PFA player of the year in Australia and excelled in the United States' National Women's Soccer League, has played 41 times for Arsenal since her debut in the Champions League quarter-final against Paris St Germain in August 2020.
