His 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 6-4 win over Argentina's 13th seed Diego Schwartzman set up a round-of-32 clash with American Maxime Cressy and means he will bank a minimum $221,000 from the Open.
STAT OF THE DAY: Women's second seed Aryna Sabalenka squeezed past China's Xinyu Wang despite making 19 double faults, including five in her extraordinary first service game. The Belarusian recovered from the early setback to advance to the third round with a 1-6 6-4 6-2 victory and will next play 31st seed Marketa Vondrousova.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley was showered with boos as he appeared on-court to hand Samantha Stosur a bouquet of flowers after the Australian great lost to No.10 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in her finals singles appearance. Tiley is yet to make any public statements about the Novak Djokovic saga. On court, women's third seed Garbine Muguruza and sixth seed Anett Kontaveit were stunned by Clara Tauson and Alize Cornet respectively but No.7 seed Iga Swiatek progressed. In the men's, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev both booked their tickets to the third round along with top Australian Alex de Minaur and No.15 seed Roberto Bautista Agut.
