Bernard Tomic overcame rain delays and a late withdrawal to dispatch qualifier Thiago Monteiro in straight sets at the Miami Open.

Tomic ousted the Brazilian 6-4 6-1 in a little over an hour on Friday to set up a second round clash against Novak Djokovic.

The World No.1 has won all five of their previous matches, with the pair last facing off nearly four years ago in Shanghai.

Tomic avoided an opening-round contest with Tomas Berdych after the Czech withdrew with a lingering back issue on Thursday.
