Aussie hopefuls fall in US Open qualifiers

None of the 16 Australian hopefuls have qualified for the US Open after Priscilla Hon, Jamiee Fourlis and Lizette Cabrera were all downed at the last hurdle.

Australia's US Open contingent will remain at 11 after none of the 16 hopefuls qualified.

Priscilla Hon, Jamiee Fourlis and Lizette Cabrera all fell at the last hurdle at Flushing Meadows on Friday.

Hon was defeated 6-3 7-5 by Czech Denisa Allertova, Fourlis lost 6-4 6-2 to Slovak Jana Cepelova 6-4 6-2 and Kazakh Elena Rybakina beat Cabrera 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Earlier in the week, Zoe Hives, Ellen Perez, Maddison Inglis, Arina Rodionova, Kaylah McPhee, Destanee Aiava all bowed out.

None of the male hopefuls made it to the final stage, with Akira Santillan falling at the penultimate hurdle.

John-Patrick Smith, James Duckworth, Andrew Harris, Alex Bolt, Marc Polmans and Max Purchell all bombed out in first round of qualifying.
