Australian Jordan Thompson has been defeated in the opening round of the ATP's Qatar Open by Serbian ace Miomir Kecmanovic.
Jordan Thompson's Australian Open preparations have taken a hit with a first-round defeat at the ATP's Qatar Open.
The Australian Davis Cup team member was beaten 6-4 6-2 by rising Serbian ace Miomir Kecmanovic.
World No.63 Thompson had his serve broken three times and failed to earn a single break-point opportunity against the 20-year-old ranked one place above him.
Kecmanovic, who finished last season by reaching the semi-finals at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan, will play 2012 Qatar champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a place in the quarter-finals.
Other first-round winners in Doha on Monday were Serbian sixth seed Filip Krajinovic, Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, Jeremy Chardy, Aljaz Bedene and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, a surprise victor over seventh-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
