Millman into Auckland quarters

3 minute read

John Millman is set to enter the Australian Open as the form male player among local hopes after another win to start 2020.

John Millman has improved to 4-0 this year, defeating Karen Khachanov to reach the quarter finals of Auckland's ASB Classic.

Millman will carry impressive form into next week's Australian Open after disposing of the world No.16 Khachanov 4-6 6-3 6-3 in another late-night finish in New Zealand.

The Australian No.3 took his chances against the Russian, improving on serve as the match went on and converting four of his six break points.

His reward is a battle with Frenchman Benoit Paire on Thursday night for a place in the last four.

Richer rewards could await in Melbourne Park.

Millman's best career performance at his home grand slam is a third-round appearance, achieved in 2016 when he lost to Bernard Tomic.

He will enter the draw unseeded but on present form won't be intimidated by an early meeting with one of the world's best.

The likeable Queenslander also defeated world No.21 Felix Auger-Aliassime in the ATP Cup.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
