Latvian tennis ace Jelena Ostapenko has blown past Paula Badosa to progress to the second round of the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy.
Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko has advanced to the second round of the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy with a thumping win over Spain's Paula Badosa.
The sixth-seeded Ostapenko dropped just four games and struck 26 winners in Monday's 6-2 6-2 win, making up for a surprise loss to Badosa at last year's French Open.
The Latvian thrived in the indoor conditions, building her game off her serve with 17 deliveries unreturned to go with four aces.
"Very consistent and very confident," a satisfied Ostapenko said after the match.
Ostapenko will next face either Jaqueline Cristian and Vera Lapko in the second round.
Australian qualifier Arina Rodionova was outplayed by Russian veteran Vera Zvonareva 6-1 6-3.
Rodionova started strongly in the second set to lead 3-0 but Zvonareva roared back to win the next six games and the match.
Zvonareva will next play third-seeded Fiona Ferro, who had a bye in the first round.
Earlier, Aliaksandra Sasnovich showcased her baseline powess to recover from a set down to defeat Ana Bogdan 2-6 6-2 6-1.
