Australian Ajla Tomljanovic has qualified for the last 16 of the WTA tournament in Belgrade after defeating Ivana Jorovic in straight sets.

Ajla Tomljanovic is through to the last 16 of the WTA's Serbia Open after beating wildcard Ivana Jorovic in straight sets.

Tomljanovic broke the Serbian's serve five times en route to a 6-4 6-3 victory in her tournament opener.

The world No.76 Australian will now meet seventh-seeded Rebecca Peterson for a place in the quarter-finals.

In other action, Yulia Putintseva advanced to with a hard-fought three-set victory in her first-round match of the WTA 250 event.

Nadia Podoroska of Argentina and Spain's Paula Badosa charged into the quarter-finals with comfortable round of 16 wins.
