Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic has cruised through to the second round of the Volvo Car Open in the US with a convincing win over American Christina McHale.

Tomljanovic started with a hiccup, dropping her serve in the opening game of the match, but was in full control from then on to win 6-3 6-0 on the green clay in Charleston.

The Australian world No.78, who gave Naomi Osaka a fair test at the recent Miami Open, will face the winner of Marie Bouzkova and Timea Babos in the second round.

In other results on Monday, 19-year-old American ace Amanda Anisimova fought back from a set down to beat Poland's Magda Linette 5-7 6-2 6-3.

And hard-hitting Spaniard Paula Badosa also overcame an early stumble in her 3-6 7-5 6-1 win over Russia's Varvara Gracheva.
