Jordan Thompson has sealed his place in the last 16 of the ATP 250 event in Los Cabos, dealing expertly with the booming serve of veteran Ivo Karlovic.

World No.63 Thompson managed to break the Karlovic serve three times to wrap up a 6-4 7-5 victory in one hour 35 minutes.

Despite the 42-year-old Karlovic sending down 11 aces, Thompson converted on three of four break-point chances to advance to a showdown with Sebastian Ofner.

It wasn't all good news for Australian in Mexico, however, with Matt Ebden losing 7-5 6-1 to Sweden's Elias Ymer.

Ebden broke serve in the sixth game and led 5-2 as he appeared on his way to a one-set lead, only to drop his serve twice to hand Ymer the advantage.

It went further downhill from there for 247th-ranked Ebden who failed to hold serve once in the second set.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
