There were contrasting opening day victories for Ajla Tomljanovic and Astra Sharma as the Morocco Open got underway in Rabat.

Ajla Tomljanovic and Astra Sharma have both progressed at the Morocco Open.

Australian No.1 Tomljanovic brushed aside Spain's Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-2 6-1 and will now meet Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova.

Sharma had to work much harder, recovering from a torrid first set to defeat Mexican Narcela Zacarias 1-6 7-5 6-4. She next meets Croatia's Petra Marcinko.

Top seed Garbine Muguruza won 6-2 6-1 against Anna Danilina.
