Tony Sergi couldn't fault the preparation of his stable star, Island Bay Boy, as the Queanbeyan trainer readies himself and his four-year-old for Saturday's $1.3m The Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick.

When Frank Mittiga won a slot in the $1.3 million The Kosciuszko, he rang the only country trainer he knew – Tony Sergi at Queanbeyan – to see if he had a horse he thought would have a chance in the race.

Up and coming sprinter Island Bay Boy has the opportunity to enhance his race record when he starts in the TAB Federal (1200m) at Queanbeyan on Tuesday.

Tony Sergi will saddle-up his first metropolitan runner since the 2017/2018 racing season.
