Trainer Stefan Vahala walked away from Monday’s Belmont trials with a spring in his step after a couple of recent acquisitions performed strongly.

Michael Gangemi is not certain if Notorious One can buck the odds and win Saturday’s G1 Furphy Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot, but it wouldn’t be a shock if he did.

As far as winning salutes go, Keshaw Dhurun’s was a good one.
