Almond Eye headlines a deep-looking edition of the Arima Kinen at Nakayama and the Racing and Sports Priceline agrees that she should sit atop the market for one of the biggest betting races on the planet.
Assessed Prices: Almond Eye $2.00; Saturnalia $6.50; Lys Gracieux $6.50; Suave Richard $13.00.
Almond Eye has been a megastar in world racing for the best part of 18 months now, winnng six Group One races in that time, but none were better than her most recent win in the Tenno Sho where she ran blistering time and belted a strong field by three lengths.
If she repeats that figure this weekend then this is hers, but it's worth noting that it is just one figure in an array of possible performances, and there are a couple of ratings in that span that would be vulnerable to a couple of top notch challengers at Nakayama.
Chief among them is Saturnalia. No match in the Tenno Sho but he was $3.5 in the betting there and was hardly ordinary given the strength of the contest. He finished alonside Suave Richard who backed that up by winning a Japan Cup. The form is strong - and more can/could and perhaps should be expected of Saturnalia who looks a bet in markets that are available early doors.
Cox Plate winner Lys Gracieux is the one thrown up as the number one threat to Almond Eye in those markets. She's off two big performances and better than ever at the age of five based on those two ratings but she is well found according to the Priceline.
Suave Richard is the other in the top 88% of the R&S market and bigger prices are available than the 12-1 suggested. He's only going to win races when a couple of others flop but his Japan Cup-winning figure, at his most recent/relevant run must have him in the shake up.
Suggested Bet: Back Saturnalia in the Arima Kinen.
