The Prix Vermeille is a Group 1 race run under Weight For Age conditions for three year olds and up fillies and mares at Longchamp conducted by France Galop.
The Prix Vermeille is run over 2400m. It was first run in 1897 and was won by Ortie Blanche.
Vermeille was a quality broodmare in the 1800s.
The race is part of Arc Trial day run three weeks prior to the Arc meeting.
After being a three year old race, it became open to four year olds in 2004 and even older mares in 2006.
Grand filly Zarkava won the Pouliches and Diane and then off a break took out the Vermeille before ending her short career with a brilliant Arc de Triomphe victory.
The great mare Treve won the race twice in 2013 and 2015. The first of them came before her first Arc win.
Yves Saint-Martin won the race seven times as a jockey and so does Alain de Royer-Dupre as leading trainer.
The last non-French winner was Tarnawa in 2020 for Dermot Weld.
The Prix Vermeille was worth €360,000 in 2020 due to coronavirus cuts.
Notable winners of the Prix Vermeille include Tarnawa (2020), Star Catcher (2019), Treve (2013/2015), Shareta (2012), Midday (2010), Stacelita (2009), Zarkava (2008), Shawanda (2005), Aquarelliste (2001), Intrepidity (1993), Salsabil (1990), Bint Pasha (1987), All Along (1982), Three Troikas (1979), Allez France (1973), Aunt Edith (1965), Monade (1962), Bella Paola (1958) and Pearl Cap (1931).
