Big Debut By Makybe Diva's Daughter

Divanation, a daughter of triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, has won a provincial maiden race at her first start.

Trained by Tony McEvoy, Divanation is by Black Caviar’s half-brother All Too Hard.

She had been given a long and patient preparation for her first start at Werribee in a maiden plate over 1625m.

Divanation started favourite and made quite an impression, looping the field on the home turn to win by a clear margin with plenty in hand.

Divanation was purchased by McEvoy Mitchell Racing for $300,000 from the Milburn Creek draft at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

The three-year-old filly was in work last year and trialled over 1400m in December before she was spelled without racing.

She won a recent barrier trial at Tatura and was well fancied to win her debut.

“She’s a very nice filly but we’ve been very patient with her,” McEvoy said.

“With her pedigree she was always going to need time.

“She’s got to get over ground. The All Too Hards have taken a time but now they’re three-year-old days he’s really rising to be a good stallion.

Makybe Diva, a dual Australian Horse of the Year, has had five of her first six foals make it to the races for three winners while her unplaced daughter La Dolce Diva (Fusaichi Pegasus) produced the G2-placed Touch Of Mink.

Divanation’s debut coincided with this week’s retirement to stud of Black Caviar’s daughter Oscietra.

Oscietra, by Exceed And Excel, is Black Caviar’s first foal and won two of her five starts for the Lindsay Park stable.

"She's obviously extremely valuable as a broodmare and she's retired structurally sound,” said co-trainer Ben hayes.

“She was feeling her knees and the ownership group believe she's more valuable at stud.”

Black Caviar’s second foal, the Sebring two-year-old Prince Of Caviar, is set to race for the first time at Sandown on Saturday.

Black Caviar also has a yearling filly by Snitzel, a weanling filly by More Than Ready and is in foal to I Am Invincible.
