Vets Keeping Close Watch On Cup Imports

Racing Victoria stewards have provided veterinary updates on several imported horses that feature among the third acceptors for the $8 million Lexus Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5.

The update is provided ahead of compulsory pre-race veterinary examinations of the top 35 ranked acceptors by RV vets this Thursday and Friday.

Cross Counter

Cross Counter has undergone a precautionary Standing CT scan at the University of Melbourne Equine Clinic and has been passed suitable to continue its preparation.

Ispolini

Ispolini was referred to the University of Melbourne Equine Clinic to undergo a Standing CT scan across the weekend after showing signs of soreness upon inspection by RV vets.

The results of those scans have been provided to trainer Charlie Appleby and his vets for review with the stable electing to send the horse for further diagnostic testing this afternoon at the Ballarat Equine Clinic.

RV vets will consider the results of all testing in consultation with the stable to determine Ispolini's suitability to be a final acceptor.

Marmelo

Marmelo was referred to the University of Melbourne Equine Clinic to undergo a Standing CT scan across the weekend after showing signs of soreness upon inspection by RV vets.

The results of those scans have been provided to the horse's connections and their vets for review.

Marmelo's trainer Hughie Morrison is currently en route to Australia and RV will be discussing the results with him upon his arrival tomorrow.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable have advised RV vets that they have been undertaking precautionary veterinary testing on Southern France at the TAB International Horse Centre.

Based on advice from the stable's vet, RV vets are satisfied at this time that Southern France can continue its preparation and progress to the compulsory pre-race veterinary examinations later in the week.
