2019 OAKLANDS PLATE – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Thinking the newcomer might take this up. In the Oaklands Plate, ZOULAH (6) is that first timer in a strong stable. She has a trial win under her belt and it will not take much to beat this field. WESTPORT (3) chases three on the bounce and young horses in form tend to hold it. She has put margins on them so far. Will love the damper tracks.

INDISCRETION (5) did starts favourite in a Melbourne race. That has to be considered from this yard. POUTING LIPS (4) got her win in the country. Should like the longer race. ISCARIOT (1) ran a fair race second start.

Westport made it three on end this preparation and claimed her maiden stakes success at start four in a decisive victory here. She was third into stride then held the fence in second a neck back of the leader past the 1000m. Rounding into the home straight she took over and on straightening stretched out by a length then by two soon after. At the 200m she was challenged but had plenty in reserve, still clear by more than a length at the post. Indiscretion was a clear last of six at the 800m, improved quickly (wide) turning in and ran up to challenge at the 200m but could not catch the winner. The first two were out on their own. A distant third was Pouting Lips who was fifth turning in and battled away to hold third from Zoulah.
