2019 BLAZER STAKES – RACE ANALYSIS AND TIPS

Spanish Whisper and Savatiano can work forward from out wide and Haut Brion Her will be right there from the low draw.

POHUTUKAWA (5) ran well first up at Newcastle where she was ridden off a very steady tempo. They ripped home there and she just petered out on the run late. Could be a sharp improver with that run under the belt. She's top pick ahead of FIDELIA (8) who has set herself up to peak third time out. Two very solid closing efforts this time in. She will want the mile soon enough but her closing burst will see her rattling at these.

SPANISH WHISPER (2) beat her home in the lead up and will make her own luck. Has a hope again. SAVATIANO (4) should run well here first up with her best ratings right in the mix against these and ANGELIC RULER (6) could improve sharply up to 1400m which is her trip.

Ultra consistent, Haut Brion Her made her stakes debut a winning one taking her record to five metropolitan wins and three seconds in her only eight starts. She was third away but gradually worked forward along the rail to take over the lead inside the 1000m. A half length lead at the 600m grew to a length turning in and she slipped clear inside the 400m. Continuing to quicken from the 300m she was well in command and rider Michael Walker was able to ease her yet still have three quarters of a length to spare at the line. Pohutukawa sat sixth (rails) from the 800m, got away from the fence turning in and found a split at the 300m. Once in the clear she ran on strongly but was never going to catch the winner. From fourth last at the top of the straight Angelic Ruler pulled wide and maintained a solid run the length of the straight for third while Savatiano, second into the straight, was passed late to hold fourth.
